Sorry Prakash in an [sarcasm]awesome[/sarcasm] turn of events, I can't come. My mother has confined me to my house this weekend to study for my finals which are starting tomorrow and ending the 20th. Sorry!

Anyone of you seen it yet? I won't have the chance to see it in some weeks yet, but I'm starting to really look forward to it, what little I've seen of it this far looks great. Of course, how they portray Aslan and the White Witch is the live or die for this movie in my book and I haven't gotten a good look at either of those yet.

I won't get a chance to see it for awile either but what I have seen in tv promos is quite outstanding. Although I haven't seen the White Witch, Aslan looks remarkable. I'm hoping my children took the hint for movie passes in my stocking, as this will be the movie I wish to see during the holidays.

saw it yesterday. it was good. didn't really know what to expect, so I don't really know what to say about it. the CGI was pretty good (I couldn't tell Mr. Tumnus the faun really wasn't one), although obviously CGI in some places (hello, talking lion).
there are some plot holes here and there, but I suppose they're non-existant for people who have read the books (unlike me).
although it was a good movie and I enjoyed it, I don't feel like it's something that I particularly want to see again. I don't know what it is about it.

...so, to recap, CGI is believable when it makes you see a man with goat-legs and a tail, but if it makes a lion talk, then it is obviously fake?
I think someone maybe needs to re-evaluate their grip on reality...

You haven't read the boks? Next you'll be saying you never read "The Hobbit"!

yeah I've read The Hobbit. liked it more than the LotR trilogy (books), although I don't really want to read it again. not a fan of Tolkien. he creates good stories, but I don't like his writing style.
I used to watch the CoN BBC series many years ago when it used to air on YTV, but I wasn't crazy about. I'm pretty fuzzy on what went on, I was pretty young at the time.
what I was trying to say about the CGI... it's not because the lion is talking that it obviously looks fake. there's just a certain way that it moves sometimes (the centaurs and other creatures too for that matter) that just doesn't look 100% natural. it can be the way it turns its head, or just the way the wind blows through its fur. obviously, CGI technology has not reached the point where it looks completely real. it's pretty close though and with my silly nitpicking asside, there are still some pretty awesome effects in the movie.
but I dunno. overall I have this odd feeling about the movie. I liked it, it was good, more than just OK, and entertaining. but it's not like I walked out of the theater saying "omg, that was amazing, you have to see this movie!"
and that's what I mean when I say that it's not really something I want to see again.

I felt the same way, Actually. I never read the books(but a labmate who read lion witch.... said that the movie follows closely). But I loved the bbc series when i was younger. I mean i guess i had expectations(a la LOTR kind of), and it was good... but anyway i havent seen king kong I want to see that.

I like LotR quite a bit better than The Hobbit, I have to say, but I'm not a fan either, in the sense that I've read several books in the same general genre that I liked better. That aside, I have the outmost respect for his work, few fantasy-worlds have so much detail and few books have made such an impact on a genre and on the people reading it.
As for writing style, that's mainly my problem with Narnia, they are somewhat too childishly written. Which is odd, because I don't usually have a problem with that (for example I love Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories") but it might be that the tales are so serious in content that I feel the way of telling it is somewhat askew. Be that as it may, I think I might have the same attitude, more or less, to Narnia that you lucky seem to have towards LotR/Hobbit. I like the stories more than I like the books themselves. Which is why the movie should be good, it's a retelling of a story, not a retelling of a book.
With Narnia, it is the BBC-series that sold me. They have their faults, to be sure, but they are very, very charming in my opinion. And they give me such a christmasy feel.
Speaking of, a merry Christmas to all of those here who might wish one! (yeah, a tad early, but I probably won't have time for message-boards on Christmas Day)

Just saw Narnia and it was very "meh" to me. I found it kinda wierd to have a movie with such childish characters and then have them kill people :S
edit: wow i agree with sarah... but she liked DEBS... I'm confused

hey, D.E.B.S. falls into the category of "so bad it's good." kinda like Dude Where's My Car? it's a funny, stupid, but entertaining movie. granted, it's not something that'll stand the test of time, but it's still enjoyable

For anyone that I haven't seen King Kong yet, see it while it still on the big screen, its very very good.
Granted I am a HUGE

fan of King Kong but it's still a good movie. Be patient however, at 3 hours 1 minute, I say maybe dont go at the 11pm showing

MJ and I went to see Narnia. Missed the cheap day/night price! Although it was $19.90 for the both of us, plus $16.35 for popcorn and drinks, I must say, we really enjoyed the movie..
I'd gotten MJ the complete works book for christmas, so she was eager to see the movie, so she could read the book(s).
I want(ed) to go see King Kong, but she's luke-warm on that one. So I guess we'll wait and get it on DVD, and watch it at home. They say movie attendance is down these days in record numbers. $40 for 2 people... And they wonder why?

Should have commented a while ago cause we saw Narnia before Christmas with the kids. A little rough (the battle scene to be specific) for the younger ones but overall a very good movie. We all really enjoyed it and can't wait for it to come out on DVD.
On another note, anyone interesterd in Underworld 2? Just curious.

I'm moderately interested in Underworld 2 - enough for me to probably go watch it once after it has been shown for a week or so and the cinemas aren't as crowded.

It's coming out on the 20th and I may try to surprise my husband and take him out 'shindig-eve'. Let you know if it's worth it....although it took me a second look at the first Underworld before I really enjoyed it.
